As Thanksgiving approaches, we at Thalamus want to pause and reflect on the many milestones and achievements we’ve shared with the graduate medical education (GME) community. This recruitment season has been historic for Thalamus, with the launch of the ERAS® Thalamus API in our second year of strategic collaboration with the AAMC. We’re deeply grateful for the trust and partnership you’ve shown us as we work together to enhance the transition to residency and fellowship.
Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve accomplished together so far:
90% Opt-In Rate Among ERAS Programs
We’re thrilled to share that over 90% of ERAS residency and fellowship programs opted-in to use Thalamus this season. This extraordinary level of participation demonstrates the GME community’s confidence in our platform and its ability to streamline recruitment processes at scale. We, alongside our strategic partners at the AAMC, remain committed to providing the community with one centralized interview management platform for applicants and programs, per the recommendations from the Coalition of Physician Accountability UGRC. We are humbled and honored by this achievement and thank the entire academic medicine community for innovating with us.

Record-Breaking Activity
This season has had many historic moments for Thalamus:
- 650,000+ Interview Invitations Sent: Across all specialties, Thalamus has helped coordinate several hundreds of thousands of interview invitations, ensuring applicants and programs have a seamless scheduling experience on our robust platform.
- Millions of video interview minutes and sessions on Thalamus Video: So far this year, Thalamus Video has hosted more than 15 million minutes of interviews, shattering our previous record, now totaling of over 100 million minutes since the platform’s inception in 2020. This season alone, over one million participants have completed over 300,000 video interview sessions. Thank you for making Thalamus Video the most trusted choice for the GME community.
- 200+ Webinars and Trainings: From specialty societies to academic organizations, we’ve conducted over 200 webinars, custom and in-person training sessions to ensure every program and coordinator is equipped for success.
- Thousands of Support Tickets Answered: Our customer care team has worked tirelessly to address your needs, all while maintaining a lifetime customer support satisfaction rating of over 95%. Our team comes from GME and has over 200 years of collective GME experience, so we understand your needs and your support makes us proud.
Successful Pilots and Specialty Support
- Cortex Pilot Success: Cortex, our innovative, technology-assisted, holistic application review and screening platform, was successfully piloted with residency programs in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), Orthopaedic Surgery, and Urology. Their preliminary feedback resulted in AAMC and Thalamus announcing that Cortex will be offered to all ERAS residency and fellowship programs starting in July 2025! We are excited to share more with the community regarding training, onboarding, and support in the upcoming months. 🙂
- Supporting Specialty Release Dates: Thalamus has been a steadfast partner in managing interview invitations and schedules for all major specialty common release dates, including Neurosurgery, Pediatrics, Med-Peds, Ophthalmology, Child Neuro, Emergency Medicine, Pathology, Thoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Urology, OB/GYN, Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology, and Orthopaedic Surgery.
- Supporting Specialties using Other Application Systems: Thalamus continues to support programs using all application systems, including 50 OBGYN residency programs that chose to use Thalamus this year.
Upcoming Features
This season saw many new features to Thalamus including the ERAS® Thalamus API, novel reports in Cerebellum, the widespread adoption of Thalamus Holistic Review, and many enhancements to Cortex, Thalamus Core, and Thalamus Video. We appreciate the continued feedback and recommendations from the community that allow us to continue making Thalamus better.
