AAMC-Thalamus Collaboration

Accelerating innovation across the transition to residency and fellowship for applicants and programs.

Thalamus Overview

Collaboration Overview

On April 27th, 2023, the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) and Thalamus entered into a strategic collaboration to accelerate innovation across the transition to residency and fellowship processes. This mission-driven collaboration between a non-profit and Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) has delivered Thalamus Core and Cerebellum to all Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) programs, built an innovative API to streamline data transfer and user experience across Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) Program Director’s WorkStation (PDWS) and Thalamus products, and provided tech-assisted application review and screening through Cortex and Thalamus Holistic Review!

Key Benefits

Complimentary Access to Thalamus Products for ERAS Programs

Through this collaboration, all ERAS residency and fellowship programs receive complimentary access to the Thalamus interview management platform, Thalamus Core and Itinerary Wizard, as well as Cerebellum, a novel data and analytics dashboard to assess recruitment outcomes at both the program and institutional level.  New for ERAS 2026 (beginning July 2025), all ERAS residency and fellowship programs will receive complimentary access to Cortex, Thalamus’s tech-assisted holistic application review and screening platform.

Programs may elect to purchase the Thalamus Video interview platform. Institutions may also purchase Thalamus products for non-ERAS programs, and broader institutional discounts are available.

How to Participate

Steps for Participating

Register your institution or program to use Thalamus for the 2026 ERAS season.

For Institutions

These steps need to be completed for both new and existing Thalamus institutions.

  1. Starting on April 2, 2025, designated institutional officers (DIOs) (and/or the main contact at an institution) may register for the ERAS season on behalf of their programs. Prior to June 4, 2025, users should log in to the ERAS Program Director's WorkStation (PDWS), click on the Program Management tab, and accept the terms of use. Once the ERAS season opens on June 4, 2025, users will be presented with the terms of use to accept immediately upon login.

New for this year, registering to use the ERAS system will automatically register programs for complimentary access to Thalamus Core, Itinerary Wizard, Cerebellum, and Cortex. No other steps will be needed to receive access to Thalamus.

  2. Bulk onboarding to Thalamus will begin on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 when the 2026 ERAS season opens. The program user that opts-in will receive an email containing account and login information within 72 business hours of the season opening or the date of form submission (for opt-ins after June 4). Programs are onboarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
